The first Democrat in Congress to call for Biden to step down was Rep. Doggett

The debate about Joe Biden: How do you know what is going on and what’s going on with the debate? (I’ll be fighting harder,’ tells donors after disastrous debate)

The Biden campaign had been looking to shake up the race with the debate, which the president spent a week prepping for at Camp David. They wanted to put to rest concerns about Bidens age and draw a contrast between him and Trump on certain issues like abortion, democracy and the economy.

Instead, he spent the weekend doing damage control, trying to assure his party that he is still up to the job after Thursday’s debate where his voice and verbal stumbles left Democrats wringing their hands. His performance resulted in calls for him to end his campaign.

“Obviously there was a big problem with Joe Biden’s debate performance. There is a huge amount of affection and love for Joe Biden in our party and so it makes it difficult for everybody, according to Raeskin. There are very serious and rigorous conversations taking place at all levels of our party because we have different points of view.

After the debate, Biden was back on stage for a rally in North Carolina with a stronger voice and more energy.

“I know how to do this job. I know how to get things done. He said that many Americans know that when you get knocked down, you can get back up.

Biden introduced new talking points at a campaign reception on Friday and Saturday, in New York and New Jersey.

I don’t walk as quickly as I used to. I don’t speak as well as I used to. I no longer debate as well as I used to. “But I know what I do know: I know how to tell the truth. I know what’s going on.

Biden and the Second Debate: Why he was so bad at the First Lady, but why he wasn’t a Democrat

Since the debate, Biden and his allies have been trying to convince people who watched or have seen clips online that it was just one bad night and not representative of who he is as a candidate and president.

That started in earnest immediately after the debate, when the president and first lady stopped by an Atlanta watch party. The first lady praised her husband for “answering every question” and saying that Trump “lied.”

The couple highlighted the false statements made by Trump during the debate on Friday, at a New York political event. They went to the home of hedge fund manager Barry and Lizanne Rosenstein on Saturday.

Greeting the motorcade along the path into the residential neighborhood was a small group holding up signs: “We love you, but it’s time,” “Step down for democracy,” “Please drop out for U.S.,” and “Thank you, next.”

Lizanne Rosenstein, who worked for Donald Trump in the White House, told a group of people gathered on her lawn that they could waste time analyzing debate nights. It is more meaningful to compare presidencies.

Tyler said that they’ll discuss more about the second debate when they get closer to the second debate. What we’re focused on right now [is] … getting back out on the stump, communicating directly with the voters that are going to decide the election in the battleground states.”

The Biden campaign raised $33 million between the debate day and Sunday morning and claims the debate has not changed the race.

“In modern campaigns, singular moments do not spell the outcome of any race,” Molly Murphy, a pollster with the Biden campaign, told MSNBC on Sunday. She said that focus groups showed voters didn’t like the substance of Trump’s answers during the debate.

Top Congressional Democrats took to the Sunday political talk shows to push back on suggestions that Biden should be replaced as the Democratic nominee.

Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia was a guest on “Meet the Press.” If Democrats weren’t engaged in hand-wringing, they wouldn’t be Democrats, he said.

Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., the national co-chair of Biden’s campaign, toldABC’s “This Week” he thinks Biden is “the only Democrat who can beat Donald Trump.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, whopreviously told reporters he still think Democrats can win back the House with Biden on the ticket, told MSNBC the performance on Thursday was a “setback” — but one that Biden could come back from.

The fate of the elected official: J.P. Biden stumbled in a debate about the future of the presidency, and he will make a comeback

“Whether he’s the candidate or someone else is the candidate, he’s going to be the keynote speaker at our convention. He will be the figure that we rally around to move forward,” he said.

Democratic strategists have pointed out that Democratic incumbents in key Senate contests have been outperforming the president in polls for weeks. If dramatic changes in public and internal polls occur within the next few days, there could be more calls from House Democrats in swing districts.

Voters are going to punish the Democrats in November for covering up about the president’s condition, Pandol said.

“The cowards in the Democratic caucus have spent every day after the debate in witness protection, too afraid to say what they’re all thinking,” said Jack Pandol, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Most Democrats kept their opinions about Biden to themselves, and it was criticized by the campaign arm of the House GOP.

One of the most vulnerable House Democrats, Maine Rep. Jared Golden, went further than any other Democrat on Tuesday, penning an op-ed in the Bangor Daily News, predicting Trump would win in 2024. He dismissed the argument made by fellow Democrats that democracy would be in danger if Trump were to return to office.

“He clearly has to understand … that his decision not only impacts who’s going to serve in the White House the next four years, but who’s going to serve in the Senate, who’s going to serve in the House, and it will have implications for decades to come,” he said.

Lloyd Doggett was the first congressional democrat to call for President Biden to withdraw from his reelection bid, as he said that Biden had failed to reassured voters in last week’s presidential debate and was behind Donald Trump.

Biden, 81, badly stumbled in the debate, seeming at times to lose his train of thought, and struggled to defend his record. He and his campaign have insisted that he would stay in the race and make a comeback — despite calls from some Democrats and donors to step back and let another party leader run instead.

The White House press secretary said that he was entitled to his opinion. She said that it was a big-tent party. A request for comment from the Biden campaign was not responded to.

Jean-Pierre said Biden would speak to Hill leaders and Democratic governors. Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source familiar with the details told NPR that the governors were told they could attend the meeting in person or over the phone.

When Did President Biden Step Into The White House? A State of the Art During the First Four Years of Biden’s Presidency

The President had a poor performance in the debate, but he was not publicly called to step aside by most House Democrats. But five days later, a new CNN poll showedmost voters think Democrats have a better chance with another nominee, and there are signs some Democrats are more willing to break with the White House.

Democrats like Pelosi and Clyburn, who aided Biden’s quest for the 2020 nomination, took to the air over the weekend to defend him.

But on Tuesday, Pelosi’s tone appeared to shift, and she opened the door to other Democrats to raise concerns about the president’s ability to continue.

“I think it’s a legitimate question to say, is this an episode – or is this a condition?” In an interview with MSNBC, Pelosi said. It’s completely legitimate for both candidates to be asked that question.

Asked about Pelosi’s comments, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said it was a “legitimate question” but also said, “He had a cold and a bad night.”

“I think his four years are, you know, one of the great presidencies of our lifetime. But I think he has to be honest with himself. He will have to make a decision about it.
