The storm roars toward Jamaica after hitting the southeast Caribbean islands

The Beryl Irradiated Atlantic Hurricane: Preparation for a Tropical Storm and Implications for Jamaican Infrastructure in the Light of Michael Brennan

The intense storm made it the earliest Atlantic Hurricane to reach Category 5 strength on record.

National Hurricane Center director Michael Brennan said in a video briefing Tuesday morning that people in Jamaica should prepare for “multiple life-threatening” hazards from Beryl.

It warns that hurricane conditions are expected to reach the coast of Jamaica around midday, and that strong winds starting in the morning will make outside preparations difficult.

The island is expected to see high winds and several inches of rain. Water levels could go up to eight feet if a storm surge hits Jamaica.

Mitchell spoke with a local official on the islands and he described the situation as grim. “There is no power. There is a lot of destruction on the island. The roads are not passable, and in many instances they are cut off because of the large quantity of debris strewn all over the streets.”

Jamaican Hurricane Sandy has Reached Category 4, and officials are concerned about the incidence of criminal activity in the island region of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

It is rare for a tropical storm of this magnitude to occur early in the season. It was the first ever storm to reach a Category 4 strength when it was upgraded over the weekend.

Powerful storms are becoming more common due to climate change. Warmer ocean temperatures are helping to drive an especially intense Hurricane season in the Atlantic this year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

All three of Jamaica’s international airports are closed on Wednesday, and officials say the island’s electricity and water service will likely beshut off as a precaution to prevent fires and protect equipment.

“This is to ensure the safety of everyone during the passage of the storm and prevent any movement with the intent to carry out criminal activity,” Holness said in an Instagram video.

Over ninety percent of the homes on Union Island in St.Vincent and the Grenadines have been damaged or destroyed, according to the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell said on Tuesday at a news conference that the chance of more deaths is still a grim reality.

Two other deaths have been reported in northern Venezuela’s Sucre state, where authorities said another five people are unaccounted for and a total of 25,000 have been affected by heavy rains, winds and river flooding from the outer bands of the storm.

President Biden said at a Tuesday news conference that “people in impacted islands and communities are in our prayers, and we stand by to provide assistance to them.”

The Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit World Central Kitchen also announced on Tuesday that it has teams mobilizing to distribute food — starting with sandwiches — to people in need across the region including in Antigua, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Climate Change Is Happening Right Now: The Impact on Low-Lying Areas and the Country’s Climate Change Crisis, Revealed by Senator Delroy Williams

“My sense of what will happen is we will see enhanced rain chances Saturday and especially Sunday but I am not anticipating a hurricane to form in the Gulf and move into the central Texas coast,” he added.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management said residents and tourists in coastal areas should be prepared if there is bad weather over the weekend.

The impacts of climate change are taking a toll on our region. The need for targeted support to enhance resilience against the rising dangers of Climate Change was highlighted by this Hurricane.

Echoing those remarks, Jamaican Senator Delroy Williams told CNN that the international community must do more to widen coastal cities’ access to climate change-related funding and improve infrastructure in low-lying areas.

Simon is a native of Carriacou and is the executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

His grandmother’s home was destroyed, and his parents’ property was damaged. He called climate change a problem that won’t be solved tomorrow.

“This is happening right now in every economy,” Stiell added. The climate crisis is the primary cause of disasters on a scale that used to be the stuff of science fiction.
