Potential rivals of Harris have endorsed her

What is going on the road to the presidency? A look at what is happening right now: Kamala Harris’s glide path to the nomination

Good morning. The newsletter you are reading has something for you. To get it delivered to you, subscribe, then listen to up first for all the news you need to start your day.

Democratic lawmakers, organizers, and potential rivals rallied around Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy less than a day after President Biden stepped out of the race and put his support behind her for as the presidential nominee. She appears on a glidepath to the nomination when delegates meet in Chicago next month.

If another person is challenging Harris, the Democratic party could go for an open convention and have multiple rounds of voting. It depends on the number of delegates at the convention. It will be a show like you have never seen before. Here is a look at what is happening right now.

Harris has cinched endorsements from Biden and over one hundred Congress members. While she has national and international experience that other Democratic contenders lack, the road to the nomination — and presidency — is far from easy.

Getting Out of the Debt: How Democratic Candidates Can Make Sense of a New Presidential Candidate and a Possible Alternative for the White House

It has been a bumpy ride for U.S. politics recently. Keeping up with the news can cause a lot of stress, especially with the election just four months away. Even before the attempt on Trump’s life and Biden’s exit from the race, psychologists said it was normal for people to feel heightened negative emotions in this political climate. If you’re feeling intense, long-lasting symptoms of prolonged sadness, worry, hopelessness or physical tension, it could be time for an intervention. Here are some strategies to help, according to psychologists:

Gov. Andy Beshear, D-Ky., seen as a potential contender, told MSNBC Monday morning that he was endorsing her candidacy. “The vice president is smart and strong which will make her a good president,” he said.

Democratic Govs. Harris was endorsed immediately by both Josh andGavin, eliminating any chance of a challenge at the convention in four weeks.

There is little appetite for a fight for the nomination to take on former president Donald trump, and any potential challenge seems likely to be nominal.

A lot of people are interested in a mini-primary. The process is to find out if you have the strongest candidate and get behind them, according to Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia.

The Democratic Party has moved to the left. But let’s see if she comes back. A person can be either in one position or in another position. He wants to see that direction change.

Hillary Clinton won’t campaign against Donald Trump. Democrats want to make sure that Hillary isn’t a candidate in the general election: A letter from the aides to the FEC

Democratic voters flooded Harris’s nascent campaign with donations, raising $50 million in less than a day, suggesting the money will not be one of her struggles in her campaign against Trump.

“These are not ordinary times. This will not be an ordinary election, Harris wrote in a text solicitation to supporters on Monday.

Sean Cooksey, the Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Election Commission, told NPR’s Morning Edition there are legitimate arguments to be made that Harris isn’t entitled to those funds.

On Sunday, Cooksey shared on X a portion of federal campaign finance regulations, which states that if a candidate is “not a candidate in the general election,” all contributions made to that candidate for the November election “shall be either returned or refunded to the contributors or redesignated… or reattributed… as appropriate.”

But he may have to consider his interpretation if the Trump campaign files a complaint with the FEC, or a request for an advisory opinion, on Biden’s efforts to hand over his campaign war chest to Harris.

The Democratic party could be challenged in court given that they only have 100 days before the presidential election to address those complaints.

“We’re ready, and we’ve been ready,” Trump spokesman Jason Miller said on X. “Kamala Harris will not be able to outrun the Harris-Biden record or her radical leftist record from the California days.”

Specifically, Republicans are already highlighting Harris’s more liberal immigration positions and will argue that she “covered up” for Biden’s mental acuity. Chris LaCivita a senior Trump campaign official said that they lied about it every day.

How many people vote for the Democratic shakeup remains to be seen. After Biden’s poor debate performance, he was shown in a statistical tie with Trump, but the NPR/PBS News/Marist poll only showed Biden and Harris in a statistical tie.

Speculation quickly fell to contenders in must-win swing states such as Shapiro, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, or Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina, where Harris has already traveled frequently in this campaign.

Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz. has won statewide races twice and could put back on the map a state that Democrats believe had largely slipped away from Biden by the time he exited the race.

The Virtual Vote in the Democratic Convention Center after Biden Drops Out of the 2016 Democratic Presidential Campaign and Sens. Nancy Pelosi

With just four weeks until the convention, Democrats will have little time to vet a potential running mate and voters won’t have to wait long to find out: the running mate is historically announced in the days prior to the convention.

The Democratic Party requires candidates to fill out paperwork in a short period of time to be eligible for the vote. So far, Harris is the only candidate to earn the endorsement of more than 300 delegates. Self-help author Marianne Williamson, who ran in primaries earlier this year and in 2020, has indicated she also would like to be a candidate.

In May, the DNC began to develop a virtual vote plan over fears that if delegates were not allowed to vote in person, the nominee would miss deadlines in Ohio and other states. The convention starts in August.

The virtual vote ahead of the convention became more important after Biden dropped out of the race this weekend and Republicans threatened legal action, said Minyon Moore, chair of the party’s convention.

House Speaker Mike Johnson told CNN on Sunday that Democrats could face a real problem if they replaced Biden with another candidate.

Some of the states they are from have legal hurdles, and I expect them to have to sort that out on the ground.

Republicans have retreated from their original strategy after Biden announced his candidacy, focusing instead on the fact that Harris may face hurdles using Biden’s funds.

He thinks there is a problem with having Harris use the Biden committee as her campaign committee.

There are still some issues to be resolved from the 2016 campaign, and so I don’t think there will be a quick resolution to these issues before the election.

Nancy Pelosi made a motion to support Harris on Monday night, because he was a prosecutor. Attendees said that Pelosi spoke about the importance of California Democrats turning out the vote for her.

When she announced her campaign for president, she said she would go out and get the nomination. “I look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon.”

The DNC will have an electronic roll call by the 7th. That news comes as the Associated Press reports that Harris has secured enough delegate commitments to lock up the nomination.
