The Trump-backed candidate won the Arizona primary

Kari Lake’s Democratic Plan to Stop Abortion and Hurt Arizonans: Calling for Action against a Governor’s Candidate

Lake started her career in politics with a failed campaign for governor of Arizona. Lake continues to deny that she lost the governor’s race, and this month she filed another lawsuit in an attempt to get her reinstated as governor.

Lake was the victor in the GOP primary, with more than half of the vote going to her, compared to Mark Lamb’s and Elizabeth Reye’svotes. As more votes are counted, Lake’s margin of victory may change.

At an election night rally in Phoenix, Lake told a crowd of supporters that they had less than three-and-a-half months to save the country.

She’ll face Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego, who ran unopposed for his party’s nomination to the Senate seat now filled by retiring Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz.

Her shifting position on abortion and a ballot measure that would codify the right to abortion in the Arizona Constitution have come under fire from Democrats.

In April, Lake denounced an Arizona Supreme court ruling reviving a close ban on abortion in the state, which she had once praised as a gubernatorial candidate.

“From now until November, I welcome all Arizonans — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike — to join our team and help defeat Kari Lake and her dangerous plan to ban abortion and hurt Arizonans,” Gallego said in a statement Tuesday night.

At times during her victory speech on Tuesday, Lake sought to strike a collaborative tone, calling on “Trump Republicans” and “traditional Republicans” alike to join together to support her.

The heat in the Republican presidential race: a first-term congressman from Arizona faces off against a Democrat in the 2nd Congressional District

Arizona has become a key swing state in the presidential contest, meaning even primary races have attracted high-profile endorsements and attention. The state helped President Biden clinch his win in 2020, and Democrats swept key statewide races, including the U.S. Senate seat that Masters lost, in 2022.

Hamadeh secured 29.8% of the vote compared to his chief rival, venture capitalist Blake Masters, who had 25.3%, the AP reported, though votes are still being counted.

But the Republican presidential candidate also gave Masters a last-minute endorsement on Truth Social Saturday night. Masters lost the US Senate race in Arizona in 2022.

Donald Trump made sure that the western suburbs of Phoenix went for his favored candidate when he endorsed the two leading candidates in the heated congressional race.

The heated Democratic primary for Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District has not been called yet. A former Arizona state senator is competing with a former Phoenix City councilmember.

In the 1st Congressional District, incumbent Republican Rep. David Schweikert easily beat out his rivals. His Democratic opponent has yet to be called.

A first-term congressman from Arizona is going to face off against a Democrat in the same district after making history by winning the GOP primary.
