The governor of California said that the fires could prove to be the costliest disaster in US history

The Los Angeles Fires: What Happened When the Mayor of Los Angeles, Gavin Newsom, Was Enraged by the First Day of the California Fires

He stated that thousands of magnificent houses are gone and many more will be lost. “There is death all over the place. This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our Country. They cannot put out the fires. What’s wrong with them?

At least 16 people had died as a result of the fires as of Sunday morning, and at least 12,000 structures had been destroyed, officials said. Mr. Trump alluded to that devastation in his post on Sunday.

On “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Mr. Newsom said he had invited Mr. Trump to visit, but had yet to receive a response. The governor said that he was taking threats from the president-elect very seriously. Mr. Trump would threaten our first responders if he were to do so.

Mr. Newsom, a Democrat, has also fended off criticism from Mr. Trump, who blamed him for the failure to contain the fires and claimed he had blocked an infusion of water to Southern California over concerns about how it would affect a threatened fish species.

The Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass was faced with questions concerning whether there was adequate warning about the likelihood of catastrophic fires and why there was a shortage of water during the initial response. At a news conference on Thursday, she avoided a question about her absence from the city when the fires began — she was in Ghana on a previously scheduled official visit — and said that any evaluation of mistakes or failures by “any body, department, individual” would come later.

The fires in California have caused criticism of the politicians since they broke out and questions over how local and state authorities prepared for them.

The fires and officials’ response will probably be part of the agenda when Mr. Trump takes office on January 20. He has renewed a longstanding feud with California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, who in turn has accused Mr. Trump of politicizing the fires.

Multiple Los Angeles County Fires have Brought to an End, and Atmospheric Winds Are Forecasted to Continue Through Tuesday

At least 153,000 people have been forced to evacuate and another 166,000 people were under evacuation warnings as of Saturday, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. On Saturday, Los Angeles County officials said they changed the county’s alert and notification system to partner with the state’s alert center while they investigate the cause behind the false evacuation alerts sent to more than 10 million Angelenos last week.

Red flag warnings have been issued through Wednesday, with 30 to 50 mph wind gusts expected and 50 to 75 mph wind gusts in wind-prone mountains and foothills through at least Tuesday, according to the NWS.

The gusty winds that helped propel the fires are forecast to continue through Tuesday and likely Wednesday across Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, with low humidity creating critical fire conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Firefighters are bracing for more Santa Ana winds as they continue to battle multiple fires in Los Angeles that have left several people dead and burned thousands of structures.
