Trump plans to put his national security adviser at the UN

When Donald Trump announced his resignation, he wouldn’t be leaving the House of Representatives without a United Nations he said: “I’m sorry but I don’t think that’s the case”

Waltz will need to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate for the UN position. The UN spot has been vacant since Trump asked his first nominee, Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., to instead stay in Congress to help preserve the narrow majority Republicans hold in the House of Representatives.

On social media, Trump said he would make Marco Rubio his interim national security adviser in order to keep his job as Secretary of State.

In order to get to Trump’s circle, Waltz had to surmount an uphill road. He advocated for sanctions against Russia, but never seemed to mesh with Trump’s approach to Moscow and other adversaries.

Trump had initially defended Waltz — who took responsibility for the mishap — and downplayed the incident as a “glitch.” He was complimentary of Waltz in his announcement on Thursday, saying he had “worked hard to put our nation’s interests first.”

When asked about his future, Trump told The Atlantic thatWaltz is fine. “I think we learned, ‘Maybe don’t use Signal, okay?’ If you want to know the truth. I would frankly tell these people not to use Signal, although it’s been used by a lot of people.”

Tammy Bruce, the secretary of state and national security adviser for the Bush administration, and his encounters with the wars in Ukraine and Gaza

The conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza are just one of many national security issues where Trump has relied on other top aides, like Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Tammy Bruce briefed reporters at the State Department as rumors swirled that Waltz was leaving his position. “We are hanging on to a bullet train these last 100 days, we have to admit that,” Bruce told reporters.

Before he became a member of the White House, he was a member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as the chairman of the House armed services subcommittee.

“it’s highly unconventional, but it’s not unusual for the Trump administration. “Because I hadn’t seen it in previous administrations, I watched it with a great deal of awe,” Tenpas said.

Trump trusts many people at the same time, which is what he has been known to do. In his first term, his budget director Mick Mulvaney was also in charge of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, noted Katie Dunn Tenpas, an expert on presidential personnel at the Brookings Institution.

According to presidential historian Michael Beschloss, some Americans thought the double assignment gave Kissinger too much power, and persuaded President Ford to strip him of his White House title in late 1975.

The last person to simultaneously be Secretary of State and national security adviser was Henry Kissinger, during the Nixon era. He did both jobs for two years.

On the change in role of the United Nations and the group chat incident in the epoch of Trump’s first term in the House of Representatives

Vance denied that the change in position was a sign of philosophical divisions within Trump’s team. “I’ve already seen some folks saying that this is a war between the hawks and the anti-hawks, new conservatives vs. MAGA or the realists — that’s not what this is about at all,” Vance said.

“The media wants to frame this as a firing. A lot of people have been fired by Donald Trump. He doesn’t give them Senate-confirmed appointments afterwards,” Vance said.

Trump has not spoken to reporters about his decision. But Vice President Vance said in an interview that the change in roles had nothing to do with the group chat incident.

The UN position has been vacant since Trump asked his first choice to stay in Congress.
