Climate risk for younger generations is set to increase

A study published in Nature Communications found that people living in a world without climate change would have a one in 10,000 chance of experiencing extreme weather. Researchers defined the emergence threshold for Ultra-High Exposure to Climate Extremes (ULE) as 99.99th percentile of grid-scale samples of pre-industrial lifetime exposure.

It’s time for adults to act like adults on climate change

The emergence threshold for ultra-violet exposure to extreme events in a pre-industrial environment and population size from 1960 to 2020 was calculated as the 99.99th percentile of grid-scale samples of pre-industrial lifetime exposure. For each extreme event, birth year, GMT pathway and grid cell, we assess if lifetime exposure emerges or passes this threshold of extreme exposure in a pre-industrial climate.

Climate extremes have unprecedented lifetime exposure

A study has used pre-industrial lifetime exposures to generate 40,000–310,000 country-wide maps of exposure to extreme weather events, based on impact simulations and GCM input data. It estimates each exposure projection originating from a simulation under a pre-industrial climate by resampling exposure years with replacement. This process generates 40,000–310,000 country-wide maps depending on the extreme event considered and its underlying data availability.

The new flying ID restrictions are difficult to understand

The US Transportation Department is auditing the compliance with the REAL-ID law because it believes states did the best job, Brian Zimmer, a former congressman and consultant on REAL-ID laws, said. Many states initially resisted the law due to cost, privacy, and the burden on some people to provide additional documentation, Zimmer added. He said that he wrote the act.
