The United States and Iran were scheduled to start their sixth round of nuclear talks on Sunday in Oman. Iran was on the verge of a deal with the US to limit its enrichment of nuclear fuel in exchange for lifting sanctions.
In a video statement on Friday evening, Prime Minister Netanyahu said the attack on Iran was in the works for months since September, following Israel’s assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, in Beirut.

The Israeli government said 17 missile impact sites had been identified across the country after Iran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel between Friday evening and Saturday morning. The strikes were in retaliation for Israeli attacks earlier in the day. Three civilians in Israel were killed and over 170 wounded, including seven soldiers, the authorities said.

Speaking to the U.N. Security Council on Friday, Iran’s U.N. ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani accused Israel of trying to “kill diplomacy” and called the country “the most dangerous and terrorist regime in the world.” He urged the Security Council to hold Israel accountable.
More than 300 people have been injured and 78 have been killed. Iran’s state television reported that a residential building in Tehran was also hit, and the death toll was expected to rise.
Israeli emergency services organization Magen David Adom said three people were killed and dozens more injured. The Palestinian Red Crescent said that children were among the Palestinians injured by shrapnel near the city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Iran “crossed red lines” by firing missiles at “civilian population concentrations,” and warned it would would pay a “very heavy price,” the Times of Israel reported.
Mr. Malachi said that he and his family were at home when the missile hit. The impact shook his house and blew open the door to his fortified room. He emerged onto the street to see bloodied people waiting for help.
It could not be immediately known if the damage or deaths were caused by the missiles themselves or by the missiles that were sent to shoot them down. The Israeli military said both missiles and interceptors had hit areas in Israel but declined to give details.
Near the military’s headquarters is the damaged high-rise in central Tel Aviv. Residents who had evacuated from their high-rise complex after it was struck on Friday lined up to speak with a municipal official at a makeshift checkpoint near the impact site. Many appeared shaken.

On social media, President Trump said the U.S. had “nothing to do with the attack on Iran, tonight,” but warned that if the U.S. was attacked by Iran in any way, that “the full strength of U.S. Armed forces will come down on [Iran] at levels never seen before.”
It marked the hardest night for Israelis since the start of the fighting, with at least ten casualties — including children — and hundreds injured, according to Israeli emergency services organization, Magen David Adom.
In the north, sirens blared and people ran for shelter as missiles struck the country’s largest oil refinery, located near the port city of Haifa. Four women were killed in Tamra, an Arab town of around 35,000 people, according to the Associated Press. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, said it had targeted Israel’s fuel structure in response to Israel’s strikes on its oil facilities in the south.
In the central city of Rehovot, at least 42 people were injured and several campus buildings at The Weizmann Institute of Science, a prominent research center, were also struck. The damage was not thought to have injured anyone on the campus.
Yemen’s Houthi rebels said Sunday that they had assisted Iran by launching more ballistic missiles at Israel. Israel’s military confirmed that the group also launched missiles at Israel on Friday, coinciding with Iran’s direct retaliation for Israeli strikes.
An Israeli military official confirmed that Iran’s nuclear headquarters and two fuel sites were among 80 targets attacked by the Israel Defense Forces.
