He thinks the suggestion to return Abrego Garcia to the US is preposterous

Abrego Garcia’s Deportation was not a paper work issue, but El Salvador is the spear for Trump’s assault on key pillars of our democracy

Abrego’s deportation was downplayed as a “paper work” issue by her, as she said that he hadn’t been in the United States legally. If El Salvador would like to bring him back, that’s up to them. That’s not up to us.

The Salvadoran government is responsible for deciding if they want to return him, according to Trump and his team. Bukele said he would not do that.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was part of the Oval Office meeting with Bukele, said the administration’s obligation only extended to providing a plane, but said that Abrego Garcia was now in Salvadoran custody.

“What we saw today at the White House should shock every American who cares about our system of checks and balances and the rule of law,” said Vanessa Cárdenas, executive director of America’s Voice, an immigration advocacy nonprofit, in a statement. She said the Supreme Court’s decision to bring back Abrego Garcia is not compatible with the decision not to return him.

She said, “All of this reminds us that we should be concerned about what’s at stake and that immigration is the tip of the spear for Trump’s larger assault on key pillars of our democracy.”

Judicial demands to know if White House is helping return wrongly deported Maryland man: Abrego Garcia’s case in the MS-13 gang

A judge in Maryland wants to know if government officials are acting in bad faith when it comes to the case of a man mistakenly sent to a notorious Salvadoran prison.

Judge Paula Xinis on Tuesday called for a two-week process of “expedited discovery,” including questioning government officials under oath, to learn whether the government is doing enough to try to bring him back.

“It is now a fact that every day he is held in CECOT is a day of irreparable harm,” said a bench on Tuesday. “We have to give process to both sides but we are going to move. No tolerance for gamesmanship and grandstanding.”

The acting general counsel of the Department of Homeland Security, Joseph Mazzara, will have to testify next week in a deposition along with other officials who have filed declarations.

The Department of Homeland Security said it “prepared to facilitate Abrego Garcia’s presence in the United States in accordance with those processes if he presents at a port of entry,” Mazzara said in a declaration filed minutes before the hearing began.

The U.S. government has accused Abrego Garcia of being a member of the MS-13 gang, which the Trump administration has since designated a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Abrego Garcia’s lawyers dispute that he is a member of the gang, and say he doesn’t have a criminal record.

The transcript was filed by the DOJ in the Oval Office. The Justice Department’s lawyer presented the transcript to prove that the government was trying to help AbregoGarcia return to his home.

The judge called the comments made in court about whether the administration is working to release Abrego as it would have happened in the US, “nonresponsive”, and wondered if they were meant to be.

“If I make a finding of contempt it will be based on the record before me,” she added. “No, I don’t consider the transcript you gave me to be answering the question.”

“We’re very confident that our actions are within the confines of the law and we will obey the court’s orders,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday.

However, the Supreme Court also said the judge should clarify her decision “with due regard for the deference owed to the Executive Branch in the conduct of foreign affairs.”

The administration has argued that it’s up to the governor to decide if AbregoGarcia is returned.

Attorney General Pam Aviv stated during the Oval Office press conference that they would provide a plane to return him to El Salvador.
