There were crashes on an Air India flight that was headed to London

Air India is pursuing resolution of the fatal crash of the Boeing 737 Max 9 passenger plane on board a class 737 jet in India

The passenger plane carrying more than 200 people crashed in India on Thursday, according to the airline. Air India said 242 passengers and crew were onboard the plane when it crashed. 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese and a Canadian are included. There wasn’t any information about survivors at the time.

The smoke from the crash site was seen on local TV channels, which are located in a city with a population of over five million.

India’s civil aviation minister is Ram Mohan. All efforts are being made to ensure medicalaid and relief support for the site, according to the post by Naidu Kinjarapu.

Boeing has had problems with passengers on their planes in the past. According to the Aviation Safety Network database, there has been no deaths reported in previous incidents involving the Boeing plane.

Boeing is facing a lengthy legal saga over two fatal crashes of its Max plane that killed hundreds of people in the last two years. The company reached a deal with the Justice Department last month, which would spare the company from taking criminal responsibility for the crashes.

The National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday morning via  X that the agency will lead a team of U.S. investigators to assist in the crash investigation.

Some aviation experts also noted that the wing flaps on the Dreamliner did not appear to be extended. Lift and lower stall speed can be increased by extending the flaps during takeoff.

“Perhaps the engines were not putting out the amount of power they needed to be putting out”, Guzzetti said, ” although I don’t see smoke or burping or flames coming from the engines.” So it could be just a computer programming issue with the engines.”

Boeing and Air India have a long-standing relationship, with the airline taking delivery of its first Boeing jet, a 707-437, in 1960, according to India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Departing early Thursday afternoon local time, Flight 171 used “the full length of Runway 23 at Ahmedabad,” having “backtracked to the end of the runway before beginning its take off roll,” Flightradar 24 said via Bluesky.

The airliner has completed at least 11 international trips in the last week, with locations including Paris, Berlin and Manila, according to the site Flightradar 24.

The jet has accumulated more than 41,000 hours of flying time, which is an average for an aircraft of its age.

The plane that left was a 787-9 and it was registered as VT-ANB. The aircraft was manufactured in Seattle and delivered to Air India in January 2014, according to data from Cirium.

“It just appears to me that the airplane is unable to climb,” former National Transportation Safety Board investigator Jeff Guzzetti told NPR, reacting to videos that apparently captured the moments before the crash. “It was able to take off from the runway and get up to 500 feet, but it just wasn’t able to climb after that.”
