The Rejoinder for a Tenacious Prosecutor: The Case for the Second Term in the Biden-Harris Ticket
Vice President Harris came back on the campaign trail over the weekend in order to raise money for the Biden-Harris ticket while President Biden kept his focus off the beach house case in Delaware.
Several hundred of the Democratic donors cheered and waved their supporters who were imprinted with the phrase “Veeptown”, a play on P-town, the beach town that is known for it’s LGBTQ history.
Harris focused on former President Donald Trump’s policies that removed protections for discrimination for LGBTQ people for health care, employment, and students and his ban on transgender military service.
She said Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, “undoubtedly will be a rubber stamp for Trump’s extremist anti-LGBTQ agenda,” citing legislation he proposed that would ban gender-affirming care. That prompted a yell of “Go get ’em, Kamala!” One of the people who donated.
President Biden’s decision to not seek a second term in office came just 105 days before Election Day, and was influenced by pressure from his party after a subpar debate at the end of June.
Harris said President Biden is putting the American people and our country above everything else by doing this. I am very grateful to the president for his endorsement and I want to win the nomination.
On Saturday, Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., called her a “tenacious prosecutor” with the experience to beat Trump. I love you and respect you. But the stakes are too high to fail. Takano said it was time to give the torch to someone else.
If Biden changed his mind, Warren said Harris would unify the party, and praised her for her work on abortion rights. “If you’re challenging a convicted felon, you can really rely on a prosecutor like Kamala to make the case,” Warren said.
After COVID, Biden Hasn’t Left – But He Has a Plan to Go Back to the Trail – Rejoinders
Biden had been doing a lot of things to push back on the concern about his age and abilities, as well as a solo press conference and several interviews. But that came to a screeching halt when he tested positive for COVID.
His doctor said that Biden’s symptoms are improving but that he still has a cough. Since the Republican National Convention ended, the pace of Democrats asking Biden to leave has picked up.
Campaign spokesman Michael Tyler told reporters on Saturday that the president would be back out on the trail next week once he gets the green light from his doctor.
The First Predictions of the United States: A Prediction from the First 15 Years of the American Revolution, the First Gun Safety Law, and the First Women’s Rights Law
The US has the strongest economy in the world. historic investments have been made in rebuilding the nation, in lowering prescription drug prices for seniors and expanding affordable health care for a record number of Americans. We provided care to 1 million veterans exposed to toxic substances. It was the first gun safety law in thirty years. Appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. The most significant climate legislation in the history of the world was passed. We are better positioned to lead than ever before.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.
“My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. The decision has been the best I have ever made. I offer my support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.
The First Day of the Cold War: The Case for Resolving Biden’s Reiteration of the ‘Red Wave’
I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do – when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.
Party leaders conveyed concern that Biden would lose to Trump, and weigh on tough Senate and House races. Rep. Jamie Raskin told him he was like Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez, who in 2003, stayed in the game too long.
He wheeled out new attack lines on Trump in a retooled stump speech — only to have to immediately scale back his rhetoric in the wake of an assassination attempt on Trump. As Republicans gathered at their national convention, he tried to campaign in Nevada to create some counterprogramming — then got COVID, sending him into isolation in Delaware.
The debate against Trump was supposed to start the contrast. The debate was largely held on Biden’s terms, as it was held months earlier than usual and with new rules.
Biden publicly railed against the “elites” in his party. “I don’t care what those people think.” They were wrong about the red wave in each of the years. Biden was talking on Morning Joe on July 8.
He told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that only the “Lord Almighty” could make him drop out of the race, and privately met with Democratic lawmakers, governors, and donors to make his case.
An assassination attempt made against Trump briefly seemed to quell the revolt, but reports that Pelosi and Schumer had directly told Biden they did not believe he had a viable path to reelection showed that Biden’s political support had collapsed, and seemed to mark the end. According to CNN, Pelosi told Biden that polling showed a dire forecast for Democrats with Biden on top of the ticket.
The President spoke with a noticeably raspy voice, seemed overwhelmed at times, and failed to make concise and clear points on a number of issues key to his reelection platform.
The goal was to send a clear message to Biden’s doubters: that he could swat away concerns about his age by showing off his first-term record and decades-long political tenure.
Biden Drops Out of 2024 Reelection Race, endorses Harris for nominee: A “bridge” to the young stars in the Democratic Party
Not since March 1968 has an incumbent U.S. president opted out of running for a second term — when President Lyndon B. Johnson, under pressure over the Vietnam War, dropped out of the presidential race during a live television address.
His decision comes just a month ahead the party’s convention. The path ahead to Nov. 5 is still unclear, and it will be difficult for the party to organize on time.
The team is in danger if they ignore the statistics when their arm is tired, and there is no shame in taking a bow to the appreciation of the crowd.
Back in 2020, when Biden was running to become the Democratic presidential candidate, he had called himself a “bridge” to younger stars in his party as he campaigned with Harris, Whitmer and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.
I realized. He said that his long time in the Senate gave him the wisdom to deal with the Congress. “And I want to finish it — to get that finished.”
The pressure to pick an alternate candidate has been compared to “the Hunger Games” by a Biden adviser.
The Rejoinder of Democratic Governors to a Democrat Presidential Candidate: President Joe Biden and the State of the Union
Democratic governors Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Gavin Newsom of California, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and Wes Moore of Maryland are also seen as leaders in the party. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear’s reelection win in his red state could add his name to the mix.
They also quickly turned their attention to Harris as Biden’s potential successor, criticizing her record on the border, and accusing her of covering up Biden’s “mental decline.”
Harris was second in command and a completely inexperienced border czar and has been gleeful in the destruction of American sovereignty, security, and prosperity. She knew for a long time that Biden would be unable to serve.
Democrats praised Biden and support for elevating Harris in a number of statements. The top leaders were mostly focused on Biden.
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated in a statement that ” President Joe Biden is one of the most accomplished and consequential leaders in American history.” America is a better place today because of the leadership of President Joe Biden. We are eternally grateful.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif, also released a statement that did not mention Harris, a fellow Californian. Biden is one of the most consequential Presidents in history according to Pelosi.
“There’s so much at stake this election — let’s unite as a country behind Vice President Kamala Harris and rise victorious over extremism this November,” she wrote. “There has never been a more critical election than this one for women’s reproductive rights, for democracy, and for our future.”
“If Joe Biden cannot run for another term, he will not be fit to serve as President of the United States”, wrote Rep. JoAnne Sesk, a member of Republican leadership.
Biden wrote that he would speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about his decision, but the letter did not give any information on how the Democratic Party could make a decision.
The New York Times reported that Democratic megadonors began discussing how to replace Biden before or during the Democratic National Convention.
A Conversation with Reid Hoffman: “I’m not going to give more until I have more confidence” about a Republican Candidate running for U.S. Senate
“I have seen some emails from people in Silicon Valley who said, ‘I’m not going to donate more until I have more confidence,’” Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn founder and Biden donor, told WIRED earlier this month.
The Democratic candidate will face a Republican Party newly energized by the victory of its populist wing and an alliance with powerful Silicon Valley investors like Elon Musk—both represented in the ascension of 39-year-old Peter Thiel acolyte J.D. Vance to the ticket as Trump’s vice president and heir apparent.
