There were shots fired in Florida which appeared to be an assassination attempt on Trump

An American AK-style rifle snatched off a golf course fence: Secret Service agents open fire on a gunman near the property line

“U.S. Secret Service personnel opened fire on a gunman located near the property line,” Rafael Barros, special agent in charge of the Miami field office, said at a news conference. The agents fired four to six rounds as they confronted the suspect, he said. Barros said it wasn’t certain if the suspect had also shot his weapon.

According to Bradshaw, the Secret Service agent who was stationed ahead of Trump spotted an AK-style rifle sticking out of a fence at the golf course. The person holding the rifle was immediately engaged by the agent. The man took off in a black Nissan. The agent that opened fire was from the Secret Service.

Bradshaw said that at the time of the encounter, Trump was between 300 and 500 yards from the suspect’s location. That’s not very far with a rifle and a scope like that.

The witness was able to give authorities information about the suspect’s car. Officers later identified the gunman on I-95 heading north to Martin County. The suspect is currently in custody.

The South Carolina Golf Course as a Sanctuary for a Safe President: Deputy Secretary of State for the Secret Service, Sen. Lindsey Graham

“I am thankful that former President Trump is safe,” Harris said. “I commend the U.S. Secret Service and law enforcement partners for their vigilance.”

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) said on X that he spoke with Trump shortly after the shooting and that the former president was “in good spirits.”

The entire golf course would be surrounded by people if a sitting president were in charge. But for a presidential nominee, there were only some Secret Service agents with him and the shrubbery surrounding the golf course made detection harder.

The Miami field office has increased the amount of assets, according to the special agent in charge. He said that we live in dangerous times.

“They are relieved to know that he is safe. They will be kept updated by their team. Attorney General Garland is keeping an eye on the situation, his office said.

Local officials also said they had a suspect in custody, without providing further details. The FBI said it is investigating the shooting as an assassination attempt, making it the second assassination attempt against Trump in less than two months.

Former President Donald Trump is safe after shots were fired at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Fla., while Trump was golfing there on Sunday afternoon.

The president said that Ronald L. Rowe Jr., acting head of the Secret Service, is in Florida to determine if any adjustments need to be made to ensure the safety of the former president.

The ballot box, not a gun, is the best way to resolve differences in this country, President Biden said in an event on Monday.

Vice President Harris said on Sunday that she was deeply disturbed by the assassination attempt on President Trump.

Federal Election Commission records show Routh donated to the Democratic platform Act Blue in amounts ranging from $1 to $25 over the course of a year.

Routh has an extended criminal history, including a conviction on a felony charge of possessing a weapon of mass destruction in 2002, reportedly related to a fully automatic machine gun. Public records list him as the defendant in multiple court cases, on matters from bad checks to tax delinquencies. He has been charged with numerous offenses in the last 10 years.

Routh was raised in the state of North Carolina before moving to Hawaii. He is the owner of a business that builds portable storage units. His digital footprint shows him as a Trump fan who supports the war against Russia.

The license plate on the Nissan was reported stolen from another vehicle, and it belonged to Routh’s Nissan.

Bradshaw says law enforcement was able to locate a witness that said he saw the guy run out of the bushes. He jumped into a black Nissan and I took a picture of it.

Detection of a sniper’s nest in a golf course encounter using a rifle designed by Viet Cong snipers

There are backpacks on the fence with space between them that appear to be an improvised sniper’s nest. The placement of ceramic tiles suggests the suspect likely intended them to provide armor against any incoming gunfire.

The center adds that an SKS-style gun was used in two high-profile attacks in the past decade: one at a baseball field where members of Congress played in 2017; and another at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado in 2015. The June 2017 attack on a Congressional baseball game practice in Alexandria, Va., left five wounded, including then-House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and two Capitol Police officers.

The weapon was identified as an SKS-style rifle — its design slightly predates the AK-47 — according to the criminal complaint against Routh. Both guns use the same 7.62 x 39 mm rounds, and the SKS was notably used by Viet Cong snipers in the Vietnam War, according to the Violence Policy Center.

“In the bushes where this guy was, is an AK-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks which were hung on the fence that had ceramic tile in them and a GoPro” camera, Bradshaw said, noting that the suspect was seemingly intent on filming what took place.

While Bradshaw predicted Trump’s future golf outings might draw more security, he also commended the Secret Service’s actions, stating, “They provided exactly what the protection should have been and their agent did a fantastic job.”

The weapon was spotted in an area of the golf course where three holes — 5, 6 and 7 — turn a corner close to an intersection where two large roads meet: S. Congress Ave. and Summit Blvd.

After Routh was apprehended, local prosecutors filed warrants and a pretrial detention motion to ensure he would remain in custody ahead of likely federal charges, Dave Aronberg, state attorney for Palm Beach County, said on Sunday.

According to the criminal complaint, Routh’s cellphone provider gave him data showing that he was in the vicinity of the golf course encounter for over twelve hours.

Routh had a federal public defender and told the judge that he doesn’t have enough money to pay his defense. He wore a blue prison jumpsuit and handcuffs, and said he has a son.
