Mexico has a female president

Mexico’s first female president, a Georgia cancer patient’s Medicaid struggle, and the suicide of an 83-year-old priest

Atlanta Philharmonic artistic director Amy Wilson wanted to be a conductor since middle school. Doctors discovered a cancer in her brain four years ago and threatened her life and dream. She had to choose between forgoing chemotherapy and surgery or getting the life-saving treatment and figuring out how to pay for it later. She chose surgery. Her recovery has been complicated by the fact that she was denied Medicaid, the state-federal program that provides health coverage to low-income people. Wilson was told she makes $30 more than Georgia’s limit.

Modi is poised to become Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term. The limits of democracy can be seen in the case of the professors, lawyers, and trade unionists who were sentenced to imprisonment over an alleged plot to assassinate Modi. The case involves the death of an 83-year-old priest, a computer hacking trail that leads back to local police and the Indian government’s use of the controversial Pegasus spyware.

Hunting Biden, the Israeli Prime Minister, Declared to be a Proponent of a Non-Proliferative Arms Control Plan

President Biden surprised Israeli leaders and set off a political firestorm inside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet Friday when he publicly endorsed a cease-fire proposal that Israel had offered privately. The plan could be done in three phases. A six-week phase calls for a full and complete cease-fire and the release of a number of hostages and Palestinian prisoners. A final release of all hostages and a permanent end to hostilities would follow. The final phase would focus on reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

Jury selection for Hunter Biden‘s criminal trial on gun charges is set to begin today. The charges of making false statements when purchasing a gun are related to Biden being a drug user. The president’s son faces two trials this year, the first of which is related to his father’s reelection hopes.

Sheinbaum and lvarez Mynez: A populist leader who has a lot to say about the United Nations and climate change

The electoral agency of Mexico believes that Sheinbaum is going to win the race with as many as 60 percent of the votes. The other opposition candidate, Jorge lvarez Mynez is projected to get between 9% and 10% of the vote.

The man widely seen as her political mentor, outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, posted his congratulationson X, formerly known as twitter.

The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change team shared the UN’sPrestigious Peace Prize with Al Gore in 2007. Now, Sheinbaum — whose has grandparents who escaped the Holocaust — will hold the most powerful office in the country.

He is one of the most divisive — and popular — figures in Mexican history: a folksy populist who has implemented social programs that have lifted millions of people out of poverty but who critics say has undermined democratic institutions while empowering the military.

“He’s going to die, but I will support him to the end” said Morales, who is retired. The man had a list of reasons. López Obrador has started “marvelous projects” like new train lines and oil refineries; he gives a monthly pension to elderly Mexicans and, most importantly, he takes care of the poor.

She is part of Lpez Obrador’s inner circle. He was elected mayor of Mexico City in 2000 and began his career as an environmental minister. She was loyal to him despite her environmental background.

While Sheinbaum lacks López Obrador’s charisma and popular appeal, she has a reputation for being analytical, disciplined and exacting. Most importantly, she has promised to support López Obrador’s policies and popular social programs, including a universal pension benefit for seniors as well as providing cash payments to low-income residents.

At a market in Mexico City, the owner said thatClaudia was the continuation of the organization. After Llope Obrador was elected into office, BautistaHerrera received monthly payments of $660 dollars, $38, to help her support her daughter. She buys a variety of household goods with that money.

Sheinbaum’s nearest competitor for the presidency was Xóchitl Gálvez. An Indigenous, pro-business tech entrepreneur who represented several establishment opposition parties, Gálvez could never distance herself from the corruption and disenchantment that voters associated with those parties.

Many people who cast their vote for Glvez were more motivated by her promises than by her campaign promises. Lopez Obrador has resulted in record high homicides and undermined judicial independence in a country that has seen one-party rule for 70 years.

Anaya said that she and her children were standing outside of a polling center in Mexico City, because she believes that Sheinbaum is a dictator. She said Lpez Obrador wants to transform Mexico into a communist country like Venezuela and Cuba.
