chondrichthyans

The evolution of the teeth and sensory systems of animals

A comparative study of Coeval Aglaspididids of Aglaspis franconensis shows that innervation associated with odontodes remains in extant forms. Three-dimensional segmentation of confocal stacks shows innervation associated with odontodes in all taxa sampled, with nerves surrounding the base of odontodes in chondrichthyans and invading the pulp cavity in the pectoral fin in juvenile bristlenose catfish. The scans of Coeval Aglaspididids were compared to the ones of Anatolepis.
