Trump has been ordered to seek the return of a man from a foreign land

The US Supreme Court has ordered the Trump administration to facilitate the return of a man named Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador from the US. The court upheld a lower court’s order for the government to “facilitate” his return but stopped short of endorsing the judge’s call to “effectuate”. Abrego Garcia was deported after an error was made.

The US government has said 137 migrants accused of being members of the Venezuelan gang Tren De Aragua, including a group of men sent to a prison in El Salvador, have been deported under the Alien Enemies Act. There are no deportation plans on Friday or Saturday, but the government can remove people on Saturday, a lawyer for the justice department said.

A senator from Maryland tried to visit a deported person

US Senator Chris Van Hollen, who’s on a trip to El Salvador, said that he plans to ask the embassy to ask for the return of 29-year-old Abrego Garcia. Garcia, a Salvadoran citizen, was deported last month despite being granted protections by a judge years earlier over concerns for his safety if he were to return there.

A lawmaker tried to visit a man who was deported

US Senator Chris Van Hollen, who has travelled to El Salvador to visit his cousin Abrego Garcia who was deported to US despite being in the country legally, said El Salvador’s government declined his requests for both. The Trump administration designated the Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO), which it claimed Abrego was a member of, as a crime gang.

Venezuela says it will resume accepting U.S. deportation flights

Venezuelan President Nicols Maduro has called for the return of Venezuelan migrants sent by US to El Salvador. Maduro’s comments come after the Central American country’s President Nayib Bukele said that the migrants were transferred to the CECOT prison in the country. The US had earlier invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to target alleged members of a violent Venezuelan prison gang.

Families of people deported from Venezuela are in dispute over gang claims

US President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday said that El Salvador’s prison system “runs an excellent prison system”. This comes after families of four deported Venezuelans alleged they were sent to El Salvador despite a judge ordering the deportations to turn around. The four are believed to have signed voluntary departures orders, a move that would allow them to come to the US at later time.

The Judge Trump wants to defrock over deportation flights

The Trump administration agreed to obey a judge’s orders after he issued emergency orders blocking the deportations of 238 migrants from Venezuela to El Salvador. US District Judge James Boasberg had ordered the US government to stop the deportations and turn the planes around. In a court filing on Monday, the Trump administration said it has good reason to believe that the migrants are gang members.
