European officials are trying to figure out a solution to the Iran problem
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the country would not negotiate with the US while Israel continued to strike Iran, according to the country’s state-run Press TV. Araghchi made the comments during talks with his French, German and British counterparts in Geneva on Friday. The talks were aimed at defusing the tensions between the two countries over Iran’s nuclear programme.
China will probably play hardball in the U.S. tariffs talks
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will meet his Chinese counterpart He Lifeng in Geneva this week for the first high-level US-China talks to end the trade war, the US said on Thursday. The two countries are set to remove tariffs on each other’s goods but maintain the 20% tariffs that have been imposed. Earlier, both countries had imposed tariffs on each other’s goods.
The first step is to negotiate a treaty
The World Health Organization’s decision-making body, the WHO’s 2024 World Health Assembly, has failed to agree on the final wording for a pandemic treaty on May 27. The agreement and treaty extension were both announced on 1 June, the final day of the 2024 World Health Assembly, the WHO’s annual decision-Making meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
