Brazil’s 17-year-old gymnast Rebeca Andrade, who won gold at the Rio Olympics on Thursday, was invited to train professionally in 2009 by the Paran Center for Excellence in Gymnastics. “If I am not mistaken, the distance from our house to the gym was 6 or 7 kilometres [about 3 to 4 miles] with a lot [of hills] going up and down,” her brother said.

The US men’s gymnastics team won a bronze medal at the Olympics for the first time since 2008 with a score of 188.9 points. The silver medal went to China with 188.9 points, while the bronze went to Japan with 188.9 points. The bronze medal is the first for the US men’s gymnastics in Olympic history.
