A federal judge has ordered the US administration to preserve records of a text message chat in which national security officials discussed plans for a US military strike against Yemen’s Houthis. The judge barred administration officials from destroying messages that were sent on the encrypted messaging app Signal earlier this month. US judge James Boasberg, who ordered a halt to President Donald Trump’s deportations of over 200 migrants from Venezuela, said he has been told that the President may not order deportations again. Boasberg, who was appointed to the federal bench by former US President Barack Obama in 2013, said that the deportations were “not within the scope of executive authority”.
