New York’s NYU Langone Health performed the world’s first pig kidney transplant on Thursday. Towana Looney, a 63-year-old grandmother who has severe kidney problems, was given a kidney from one of the pigs that have been infected with the virus. Looney said, “I’ve been living with kidney failure for 30 years. I’m so excited to be alive and not needing dialysis.”
