The United States braces for the first significant heat wave of the new season

The US on Friday declared a heat wave, the first of the summer season, in nearly 100 cities across the country as temperatures are expected to reach over 100 degrees. The national heat wave warning will remain in place for a few days before being lifted, the National WeatherService said. The average number of heat waves has doubled since the 1980s.
