Venezuela’s election gave a boost to the autocrats

Venezuela’s President Nicols Maduro on Sunday accused opposition candidate Juan Guaid of being complicit in US sanctions against Venezuelan economic sectors and officials, which led many people to leave the country. “They (US) imposed sanctions against our companies and forced us to leave our country,” he said. Guaid has opposed US sanctions against Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, PDVSA.
