Russian influence campaigns against Americans have been accused by the U.S

The US Department of Justice on Wednesday said that Russia directed Russian companies to spread propaganda across several websites in an “effort to weaken international support for Ukrainians, bolster pro-Russian policies and influence voters in the US and elsewhere”. It further accused employees of Russian stationRT of working with Tenet Media to make hundreds of videos that supported Russia’s aims.

The U.S. alleges that Russia has influence on US voters

The US Justice Department has charged Russia-backed RT with interfering in the US presidential election in 2016 to reduce support for Ukraine and pro-Russian policies in the country. The agency said that it disrupted foreign influence campaigns designed to spread Russian government propaganda. The US added that it had become aware of RT’s activities in 2017 when RT was required to register as a foreign agent.

A Russian missile strike killed over 40 people in Poltava

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the airstrike on a military training facility in the country’s Poltava region a “terrible tragedy” and said that it was a “crime against humanity”. The Turkish government has said that it had played a “key role” in the prisoner exchange between Russia and the US. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s chief of staff, Sergei Ivanov, told Russian state news agency RIA-Novosti that Russia had released more than a dozen prisoners in exchange for Paul Whelan, an American jailed in Russia.
