Trump promised to lift sanctions when he met Syria’s interim president

US President Donald Trump said that it was “my honour” to remove US sanctions on Syria. “It gives them…good, strong chance, and it was my honour to do so,” he added. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan had asked him to remove sanctions. The sanctions had threatened to force Syria to seek financial support from Russia.
