The Justice Department wants to fix a search engine monopoly

Google’s lawyers told a US court that the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) proposed remedies in the antitrust case against it are a “wishlist for competitors” and will allow them to “get resources that took Google decades to develop”. They argued Google’s search engine Gemini wasn’t the subject of the antitrust case and didn’t hold a monopoly on AI products.

SearchGulp is Openai’s direct assault on the internet

OpenAI has announced that it is working on an AI-based search engine, SearchGPT, that it says will help users connect with publishers by prominently citing and linking to them in searches. It added that the platform will be available for download in the next few weeks. Notably, Microsoft had released a generative AI-powered version of Bing in 2023.

Perplexity is a hitting machine

US-based AI search engine startup Perplexity, which was recently accused of plagiarising content, says it’s an artificial intelligence-powered search engine that provides concise, real-time answers to user queries by pulling information from recently published articles and indexing the web daily. It’s also used by search engines to catalog the contents of the open internet and make it easier to find.

There are a lot of weird answers in the search

Google has unveiled AI Overviews feature in its search engine that will help users know which Facebook Stories are related to their searched words. It will list all stories related to keywords users searched for in the past 24 hours. Google will start rolling out the AI Overviews feature to all users on its app and on Google Search within the next week.
