US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the first Indian-American woman to be nominated for President, has said that her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a “very big influence” on her decisions. “My auntie, my mother, and my grandma were…strong women that helped me see the value of service,” she added. Gopalan was born in India to an Indian immigrant mother and a Jamaican father.
