Secrets of radiation-resisting powers were revealed by a new species of tardigrade

Scientists have discovered thousands of genes that can become active when exposed to radiation after analysing the genome of a new species of tardigrade. Around 30% of the genes found in the species were unique to tardigrades. Tardigrades are known to withstand extreme conditions, including radiation at levels nearly 1,000 times higher than the lethal dose for humans.
