Trump signs an executive order to stop the TikTok ban
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to block the US government from selling a stake in TikTok to Chinese conglomerate ByteDance for 75 days. Trump ordered the US Attorney General “not to take any action” to enforce the law against ByteDance. He said the government will have a stake in TikTok through a joint venture with a private company.

The US Supreme Court has upheld a decision to ban ByteDance from selling its video-sharing app TikTok. In its ruling on Thursday, the Supreme Court called the ban an “appropriate step” towards “protecting American children”. The government had claimed TikTok was a platform that “trafficked in child pornography and other content”. ByteDance had urged the court to reject the ban.
