Iran on Monday claimed that it had carried out missile attacks on the US military bases in Qatar and Iraq after the US launched strikes on its nuclear facilities. Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that the attacks were “a violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter”.

The US Air-strikes on Iranian nuclear sites were done to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday. “Iran’s missiles and nuclear programme needs to be degraded by Israel,” he added. Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif called the airstrikes an “outrageous, grave and unprecedented violation” of the United Nations Charter and international law.
A group of rebels claim to have taken control of a city
As many as 13 United Nations (UN) peacekeepers and foreign soldiers were killed in fighting with M23 rebels in eastern Congo, the UN said on Saturday. The rebels have given the military 48 hours to lay down their arms. On Saturday, the rebels issued an ultimatum to Congolese forces defending Goma, giving them 48 hours to lay down arms.

US President Donald Trump has nominated New York Representative Elise Stefanik to serve as the US Ambassador to the United Nations (UN). Stefanik is the Chairwoman of the House Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. If confirmed by the US Senate, she’ll replace Nikki Haley as the US Ambassador to the UN.
Israel is preparing for a possible larger ground invasion of Lebanon
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday called for an investigation into the assassination of Hezbollah chief Sheik Hassan Nasrallah in a strike by the United Nations (UN) on Saturday. “The government of Israel has decided to request an investigation into the assassination of Sheik Nasrallah,” he added. At least 15 people were killed in the strikes, Lebanon’s Civil Defence said.
The Israeli army hit Hezbollah’s leader with a blast
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has said that his country supports Lebanon’s sovereignty over its airspace after Israeli airstrikes killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. “Lebanon should not become another Gaza at the hands of Israel,” Rouhani added. He also said that he hopes that the United Nations will act as a mediator in the conflict between Lebanon and Israel.
Israel says that it struck Hezbollah’s headquarters
Over 90,000 people in Lebanon have fled their homes in Israeli attacks that killed almost 600 people in two days, according to the United Nations’ humanitarian coordination office. The UN said that about 40,000 of them sought shelter in more than 200 schools, which the Lebanese government asked to accommodate displaced people. Over 800 people have been killed in Lebanon this week.
