The WHO is a health disaster because of Trump’s plan to leave

The withdrawal of the US from the World Health Organization (WHO) is “extremely alarming” and would be a threat to America’s ability to manage the ongoing threat of COVID-19, a researcher said. “If we withdraw, it’ll have a profound impact on our ability to control COVID-19,” he added. The US had pulled out of the WHO in 2017 after Trump’s inauguration.

The first step is to negotiate a treaty

The World Health Organization’s decision-making body, the WHO’s 2024 World Health Assembly, has failed to agree on the final wording for a pandemic treaty on May 27. The agreement and treaty extension were both announced on 1 June, the final day of the 2024 World Health Assembly, the WHO’s annual decision-Making meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
