US President Donald Trump on Monday issued an executive order withdrawing the country from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The Paris Agreement, which was signed by over 200 countries in December 2015, is aimed at limiting global warming to “well below” 2C and “well below” 3C. However, the agreement states that the process would take a full year.

UN Secretary-General Antnio Guterres has asked the world body to extend the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to 2050 as part of its annual summit, the UN Summit of the Future. The SDGs were adopted by the world body in 2005 and aim to halve global warming by 2050. Guterres called for an “ambitious” agenda to achieve the goals.
